Hang up and drive
Monday, April 28th, 2008This is only the beginning. I’m reading a news account of a 20 year old girl in Pembroke who drove her car into a tree. Not because a kid on a bike swerved into her path or the wheel fell off her car, but because she was distracted while sending a text message. Mark my words, this is the first of many accidents we’re going to hear about attributed to idiots sending text messages while they are driving. I almost became one of these statistics a few weeks ago. I was driving home on 490 after working at Daisy Dukes when I was almost forced into one of the cement barriors that has been set up for the construction project. Ok, stuff happens. I hit the brakes, backed off from the car next to me and went on my way. What I saw next REALLY made me angry. The girl driving ahead of me was texting on her cell phone. I was up in a truck looking down into her car and it was obvious what was happening. As I followed this genius down 490 I observed her weaving all over the road. She almost put two other vehicles into the wall. Guess what? She NEVER noticed. Her head never turned, nor did she react to the evasive manuvers other drivers were taking. When I pulled up behind her on the Latta road exit she sat at a green light for about 20 seconds before she realized the light had changed.
A message to that driver: My life is more important than your damn text message. My kid only has one parent left, so he kinda needs me. Hang up and drive. Maybe I can put this in language you’ll understand. I’m not lol. U R AN IDIOT.
