It’s time for the SUV to go bye-bye

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

The other day I stopped pumping gas when the total hit $75. I love my truck and suv but this is just silly. I’m now on the hunt for something that gets at LEAST 25 miles to the gallon. My buddy has a GTI that gets close to 30 miles to the gallon and he’s made me an offer I can’t refuse on it, so that may be my next mode of transportation. It just frustrates the hell out of me that gas prices continue to soar. Chevron just announced their PROFITS rose 9.5%. Coincidence? I’m sure they’ll say “no.” While I’m on this particular rant, the brilliant folks that run our country learned NOTHING from hurricane Katrina. Did you know most of our oil refineries are in the gulf coast? Yes, the coast that gets whacked a few times each year by hurricanes. Do you remember how gas prices skyrocketed after Katrina and we were told our capicity to refine oil into gas had been compromised by the hurricane and that was the reason for the gas prices going up. So its been a few years and absolutely nothing has been done to build refineries in other parts of the country so that doesn’t happen again. It’s a crisis waiting to happen, again. I guess we’re all too caught up in which Starbucks Britney stumbled out of today to notice the impending doom.

By the way, the high milage technology is already here. Click here to check out this car that blew past me on 390 last week. I looked it up when I got home and it dawned on me why somebody would drive such a goofy looking car: 40-75 miles to the gallon, that’s why. Or, if you still want an SUV Ford has one that can get over 30 miles to the gallon. Click here to check it out. In my little fantasy world we’d all buy cars that get at least 25 miles to the gallon and then we could sit back and watch them choke on their damn oil. I, for one, will no longer be their stooge.
