Sports guys make me nervous

Monday, September 29th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I wore a redsox jersey to work. To me, it’s just a shirt that I bought on vacation in Boston over the summer. But apparently to “sports people” it’s either on par with seeing your long lost grandmother, or with seeing satan himself. I wasn’t even to the top of the stairs at work and the comments were already flying. Ok, I get it. Sports is something to talk about. Friendly wagers and nuggies to rub in the fact that your team beat their team, yada yada yada. But the fact that complete strangers comment on a shirt that I’m wearing kind of freaks me out a little. I am not a sports person. Nothing against them, it’s just not my thing. The same day I wore the jersey to work I had to stop and get some groceries on the way home. As I was loading them into my truck I hear “tonight is THE night!” I turned around and there was a guy standing directly behind me. “Excuse me” I said. “Tonight is the night. We’re gonna win this thing.” It really took me about 5 seconds to figure out what the hell this guy was talking about. Without missing a beat I then said “hell to the YEAH” and I high fived the guy. He let out a very manly “yeah” and walked away. I’m sure that made his night. It certainly gave me a chuckle, espicially because I probably couldn’t name a single player on any team except for a few yankees, and I only know them because apparently they make lots of money, use steroids and cheat on their wives with international superstars and think nobody will recognize them walking out of a hotel room. (Thanks for the sports info Perezhilton.com.)

Accident

I got a text message from my girlfriend Val today that freaked me out. It was a picture. I’m not going to post it because it is VERY graphic. I opened the message and saw that her face was all ripped up and she has a black eye. I immediately called her and found out she was in a pretty nasty accident on her bike. She was cruising around Conesus lake. Yes. AROUND Conesus lake. She’s a workout animal. Anyway, as she came around a corner she realized a huge chunck of the road had been dug up. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to avoid the torn up road and took a dive off the bike. Her face is all torn up, she has a black eye, and over a dozen spots on her body that are basically torn up. Some people call it road rash. I call it an accident that should never have happened. Apparently, if you’re driving on this road from the opposite direction she was riding there is a sign warning you of a dangerous road condition. There is no sign from the direction she was coming. If I’m wrong, I’ll be the first to apologize. Lucky she was only on a bike. If she were on a motorcycle this might have been a much different message. A very nice women stopped and helped Val clean the blood off her face and get her home. She was a few miles from home when the accident took place so thank God this kind stranger was there to help out. Apparently an accident report was written after somebody called the police. I’m willing to bet there is now a sign facing both directions. Thanks guys. Val’s walking down the aisle in less than a month. I hope the scabs on her face and arms will be small enough by then to be covered with makeup. Just what every bride wishes for.

PIG

Ok, Tom George has been busting my chops lately about my “build.” A few weeks ago I applied for life insurance and this particular company said they’d give it to me, but at a MUCH higher rate than first quoted due to my “build.” Translation: You’re a fat guy. Got it. Thanks. Working on it. In the mean time, Tom George is having a ton of fun (pun intended) busting on my weight. THEN…one of the sales guys here at Entercom walked in and offered me a cupcake that looks like a pig. I think I should be offended. lol. It is one HELL of a pig though, isn’t it?!
